Team Moore/Draper Wins IFA Redfish Tour Event
at Beaufort, South Carolina
IFA Redfish Tour event pays out more than $38,000
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (April 12, 2017) – James Moore, of Tybee Island, Georgia, and Bruce Draper, of Ridgeland, South Carolina, weighed a two-fish limit that totaled 8.57 pounds to win the first event for the Atlantic Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s on April 8 at Beaufort, South Carolina. The team won a fully rigged RB190 Ranger boat prize package powered by a 90 horsepower, four-stroke Mercury outboard valued at $26,800 for first place.
Moore and Draper reported windy conditions while they visited five spots, running 70 miles throughout their day.
“Run and gun with the tide,” said Moore about their fishing style on Saturday. “We fished Berkley Gulp! three- and four-inch shrimp around Trenchards Inlet and Broad River. We stuck to our plan and caught eight fish all together.”

Along with their new Ranger boat, the anglers also took home an additional $2,250 by participating in the Anglers Advantage contingency program.
Kelly Causey, of Lizella, Georgia, and Blake Payne, of Forsyth, Georgia, brought 8.47 pounds for a close second place finish. As other teams, the anglers faced windy and cold conditions, which set up for a tough bite.
“We waited on the tide to drop and it made the fish visible,” said Causey. “Then we just went in a knocked them down.”
The anglers stayed closed to the take off and employed a swimbait to catch their limit.
“It was an unbelievable day,” said Causey. “We caught a ton of fish even with the weather conditions.”
Third-place finishers Vince Payne, of Florence, South Carolina, and Geoffrey Payne, of Andrews, South Carolina, weighed a total of 8.44 pounds to win a total of $2,247, including $1,221 in Anglers Advantage cash.
The team ran 40 miles north of the launch to target schooling redfish with Berkley Gulp!.
“The tide affected us more than the weather,” said Vince Payne. “The tide was not in our favor, we had to be patient but we are pleased with the results.”
Fourth-place finisher took full advantage of the available contingency programs. The duo’s 4.91-pound redfish was hooked using Berkley Gulp! and a PENN reel. This gave the anglers the $1,000 PENN Reels award and the $500 Berkley Big Fish award, along with a $250 credit to Berkley’s website.
The next stop for the IFA Redfish Tour is April 29 at Hopedale, Louisiana. Teams that compete in at least two regular-season events will be qualified for the 2017 IFA Redfish Tour Championship.
