T-H Marine Invites Boaters to Join in 45th Anniversary Fun

Huntsville, AL – October 2, 2020 – T-H Marine Supplies, Inc, of Huntsville, Alabama, is making the most of its 45th year serving the marine industry as a family business, despite the impact of COVID and having to shift anniversary plans to the fall. At the heart of it all, T-H Marine is giving thanks to those who have been part of the journey, especially the remarkable boatbuilders, distributors, dealers, tackle shops, customers, and pro staff who have helped T-H Marine to prosper since its humble start.

“I was just a kid at the time, but I vividly remember how T-H Marine began in 1975,” said T-H Marine CEO, Jeff Huntley. “It was my dad, two of his buddies, and a vision for an innovative new product that would change the industry forever. Since I was about seven years old, I had already helped put together fishing lures for my dad and his company, Bumble Bee Baits. Now, I got to help out with boat parts as that business got started and grew. You could say I was part of the business operations from the beginning.”

Jeff Huntley’s dad, Bill Huntley, may have worked a day job at the local hospital diagnostics lab, but he could be seen fishing Pickwick Lake several nights a week and he even started a bait company eight years prior to founding T-H Marine. It was second-nature for him to involve his friends and family as he developed gear for the sport he loved.

“He wanted to improve the boating and fishing experience,” Jeff Huntley added. “At first, it was through custom fishing baits, followed by an idea about how to enhance the throttle control with a built-in trim handle. The T and the H in ‘trim handle’ inspired the company name as well as an ever-growing catalog of innovative products. My dad started with just some ideas to make his experiences better when he was boating and we have continued to try to have that same focus as a company — to make excellent products that allow everyone to better enjoy their passion on the water.”

Just as Bill fished with his father, he shared the tradition in a way that continues through the family to this day. This is true with both recreational and business pursuits, as Jeff Huntley serves as CEO and Jeffery Huntley, Jr. serves as VP of Operations.

“It’s hard to keep us off the water,” Jeff Huntley said. “Our whole family loves boating and fishing. We love it on a pontoon boat on the lake, on a bass boat racing down the river to our favorite fishing holes, or on a center console fishing in the ocean. I’m very thankful that I was able to learn the love of being on the water from my dad and then to share that legacy in so many ways with my kids and my grandkids, just like my dad did — and he still does. Even though Dad has retired from the business, he still fishes almost every week!”

As for the legacy of the business, many boat owners might not even know their boat is built with T-H Marine components, but brand awareness is on the rise. T-H Marine gives credit to industry partners for helping with that along the way and T-H Marine is determined to keep it going with modern techniques, like making their customer-oriented social media and website a top priority.

Those facets are an important part of the 45th Anniversary celebration, too, as boating and fishing enthusiasts are invited to take advantage of the following sales and giveaways:

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Danny Sheldon, of Steinhatchee, Florida, and Kyle Craven, of Macclenny, Florida, weighed a two-fish limit that totaled 14.64 pounds to win the final regular-season event for the Florida East Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s on August 1, at Jacksonville, Florida. The team won a fully rigged Ranger RB190 boat prize package powered by a 90-horsepower, four-stroke Mercury outboard.

“I have to thank my partner Kyle,” said Sheldon. “He is absolutely awesome. He did all the pre-fishing and we caught fish at every spot except one. It was probably my best day fishing I have ever had over here.”

The team fished just north of Sisters Creek in the ICW. They blind-casted Berkley Gulp! on spinner baits and sight-fished Berkley Gulp! shrimp once the water got out of the grass.

“It was a great day,” said Sheldon. “Having a good teammate is key to a win.”

The angler’s 7.59-pound redfish was the heaviest of the day, earning the $500 Berkley Big Redfish award along with $250 in credit to the Berkley website. Adding $2,100 in Anglers Advantage cash brought the total winnings to $30,100.

Second-place finishers Matt Davis and Nathan Morgan, both of Jacksonville, Florida, weighed a total of 14.29 pounds. The duo took advantage of the Anglers Advantage contingency program and added $1,050 in cash.

Tran Wins IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Event at Lafitte, Louisiana

Kayak angler takes home more than $2,200 in winnings

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Francis Tran, of Starkville, Mississippi, measured a combined total of 46.50 inches to win the first of two regular-season events for the 2020 Louisiana Division of the IFA Kayak Tour on June 14 at Lafitte, Louisiana. For first place, the angler won an Ascend 128T kayak and $1,000 in cash.

In just his second year of fishing the IFA Kayak Tour, Tran repeated last year’s win at Laffite with another strong showing in this year’s competition. Like all the IFA Kayak Tour anglers, Tran faced high winds, making for a difficult day on the water in a kayak.

Tran concentrated on the marshes and the pass at Grand Isle. He caught his limit with top-water baits and a popping cork over a plastic shrimp. The angler’s added $325 in Anglers Advantage cash and won the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Redfish award.

Second-place finisher Douglas Menefee, of Lafayette, Louisiana, measure a combined total of 35 inches to win an Ascend 12T kayak for a total of $700 in winnings. The wind also played a critical role in where he would be able to fish.

“It was windy,” said Menefee. “So much that it blew out the pass and made it unfishable. I fished Grand Isle at both ends of the island and traveled probably 15 miles.”

Menefee targeted trout with a top-water bait and employed a Carolina rig with Berkley Gulp! on a circle hook.

“It was a tough event,” said Menefee. “I’m happy I squeaked out a second place. The weather was beautiful, but the wind made it difficult to fish most of my spots.”

Another newcomer to the IFA Kayak Tour is Graves Bayard. The angler’s 28.38 pounds was good enough to win the $160 third-place prize. Bayard was also awarded the $100 Junior Angler award. Bayard fished a popping cork for trout and soft plastics for redfish.

“Fishing was great and challenging,” said Bayard. “I lost three fish that would have helped my placing, but it was still awesome. I never imagined getting third place fishing against these veteran anglers.”

The next stop for the IFA Kayak Tour is Port Lavaca, Texas, on July 12. Anglers who enter at least two events and compete in at least one event will be qualified for the 2020 IFA Kayak Tour Championship.

The team won a fully rigged Ranger RB190 boat prize package powered by a 90-horsepower, four-stroke Mercury outboard.
