Team Adams/Adams Wins IFA Redfish Tour Championship at Venice, Louisiana

IFA Redfish Tour championship event pays out more than $111,000

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (October 22, 2019) – Jimmy Adams and Angela Adams, both of Sarasota, Florida, weighed four redfish that totaled 34.36 pounds to win the 2019 championship event for the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s on October 19 at Venice, Louisiana. The team won a fully rigged Ranger 2260 Ranger Bay Boat prize package powered by a 150-horsepower Mercury outboard valued at $47,620 for first place.

First-place finishers Jimmy Adams (left) and Angela Adams (right) display their winning fish at the IFA Redfish Tour championship event at Venice, La., on October 19.

The team stayed close to the takeoff each day, only running 20 minutes to find their spot. Day one brought rain and wind with the second day being dry but cloudy with winds.

“We had to slow down and cast a lot on day one,” said Jimmy Adams. “The water was dirty the second day, but we just kept casting.”

The duo finished the first day with 17.24 pounds and the lead going into day two. Both days, the anglers fished Berkley Gulp! 4-inch shrimp under a popping cork, targeting redfish located around the hydrilla.

“We had a plan and stuck to it,” said Jimmy Adams. “It paid off with good team work. We had a lot of fun out there.”

Second-place finishers Kristian Robert, of Pearl River, Louisiana, and Fred Peterman, of New Orleans, Louisiana, weighed a two-day total of 34.12 pounds to win a Ranger RB190 with a 90-horsepower Mercury outboard.

The anglers sight-fished soft plastics in the Venice area and also ran into unexpected high winds.

Joe Wortham, of Oak Hill, Florida, and Harvey Cox, of Yulee, Florida, weighed a total of 33.25 pounds to take third place. The team fished the Wagon Wheel both days with soft plastics.

Going into the championship, Wortham and Cox had accrued 364 points in the Louisiana division. While a ways behind many teams in the Team of the Year race, a strong showing in Venice vaulted them to the top, earning the 2019 IFA Redfish Tour Team of the Year title. The anglers received $5,000 in cash for their title, courtesy of Cabela’s, along with paid entry fees for the 2020 season. All together, the team took home $11,045 in winnings.

Team Harvey/Dupre Wins IFA Redfish Tour Event at Houma, Louisiana

Anglers win more than $29,000 in winnings

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (July 31, 2019) – Kevin Harvey, of Bourg, Louisiana, and Kelly Dupre, of Houma, Louisiana, weighed a two-fish limit that totaled 16.53 pounds to win the final regular-season event for the Louisiana Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s on July 27, at Houma, Louisiana. The team won a fully rigged Ranger RB190 boat prize package powered by a 90-horsepower, four-stroke Mercury outboard.

First-place finishers Kevin Harvey (left) and Kelly Dupre (right) hold up their winning fish at the IFA Redfish Tour event at Houma, Louisiana, on July 27.

The team found good weather with a few scattered showers during competition.
During practice, Harvey found it difficult to find quality fish and opted to run to the Lake Boudreaux area, the one place he found a good amount of fish.

“There weren’t many fish to be found because they moved to the bigger water from the high tide,” said Harvey. “The majority of the fish were in the lake. We started sharing fish early in the morning in the broken marsh area but we knew the heavier fish needed to win would be singled out.”

Dupre caught the first keeper around 9:30 a.m. and the duo kept grinding through the day, catching a few more but nothing they would eventually keep. An incoming storm threatened to end their day and chances of a win.

“The clouds started coming and the wind picked up,” said Harvey. “It wasn’t looking good with one 8-pounder and a small 7-pounder in the box. It wasn’t looking good. Then I saw a fish halfway raised up on the water. I threw up in a patch of grass and as soon as he closed the distance I flicked off of the grass and he ate it.”

The team had the best luck throwing a 5-1/2-inch Berkley Havoc grass pig. After fishing the IFA Redfish Tour for three years, Harvey was satisfied to come out on top of such a talented field of anglers.

“I put in a lot of time in on the water,” said Harvey. “You got to put yourself in contention with the right fish. I have been close before but never won one. I always want to be top of the competition no matter what I do.”

Along with the new Ranger boat, the team took home $2,850 in Anglers Advantage cash.

Second-place finishers Jacob Brown, of Houma, Louisiana, and Justin Albarado, of Grand Isle, Louisiana, weighed a total of 16.09 pounds to take home $3,985. The anglers fished the Lost Lake area by sight-fishing Berkley Gulp! and spoons and blind-casting over shell beds.

Bo Favre and Justin Ladner, both of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, weighed 15.88 pounds for third place. The team reported good conditions and caught more then 30 fish throughout the day. They relied on Berkley Gulp! shrimp and Berkley Powerbait swimbaits to pull their fish from the Dularge area. In total, the anglers won $3,206 in winnings.

The next stop for the IFA Redfish Tour is set for Corpus Christi, on August 10. Teams that compete in at least two regular-season events will be qualified for the 2019 IFA Redfish Tour Championship.

IFA events are made possible through the sponsorship and continued support of these well-respected brands: Hobie Fishing, Ranger Boats, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Mercury Marine, Garmin, Berkley Gulp!, Berkley Gulp!
